Privacy Policy
Last updated August 17, 2026
FamilyGrove is a private, collaborative family-tree app. We built it so families can keep their history, photos, and documents in one place — for themselves, not for anyone else. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data, and we do not show ads.
Who we are
FamilyGrove is operated by Aventis Innovations LLC. You can reach us at invites@aventisinnovations.com. The service is available on the web and as an iOS app.
Information you give us
- Account details — your name and email address, and a securely hashed password.
- Family tree data — the relatives you add (names, relationships, dates, places, biographical notes) and how they connect.
- Photos, stories & documents — pictures, written memories, and files (such as certificates) you upload to your family's space.
- Events & messages — celebrations, invitations, RSVPs, comments, and reactions you create.
Some of this is information about other people in your family. You are responsible for having a reasonable basis to add it, and everyone in a family can edit or remove their own details once they join.
Information collected automatically
We keep basic technical logs (such as request times and error diagnostics) to run the service reliably and securely. On iOS, the app may use your device's camera and photo library — only when you choose to add a photo — and never in the background.
How we use your information
- To provide the family tree, photos, events, and other features you use.
- To send email you ask for — invitations, celebration reminders, and account emails like password resets. You can turn reminders off at any time.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
We do not use your family's content to train advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
Who can see your data
Your family's content is private to the members of your family tree. People you invite see it according to the role you give them (for example, viewers can read but not edit, and some documents can be marked “owners only”). When two families choose to connect their trees, each side controls how much the other can see. We do not make any of this public.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to operate FamilyGrove — cloud hosting for the application and database, and an email delivery service (Amazon SES) to send the messages described above. They process data only to provide these services to us.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete photos, documents, and stories you've added yourself, and a family owner or admin can remove any content in their tree. You can permanently delete your whole account at any time from within the app, under Account → Delete account; your login and personal details are removed, while the family's shared tree stays with the people who remain. You can also email us at invites@aventisinnovations.com and we will delete it, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.
Your choices
- Turn email reminders on or off from your settings, or with the unsubscribe link in any reminder.
- Edit or delete content you've added.
- Export your family tree at any time — FamilyGrove downloads your tree's names, dates, and relationships in the standard GEDCOM format.
- Delete your account yourself under Account → Delete account, or request deletion by email.
Children
FamilyGrove is intended for adults who manage their family's information. A family tree may include details about children, added by an adult family member. The app is not directed to children for independent sign-up.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use FamilyGrove after a change means you accept the updated policy.
